The American financial industry shook on Monday....Who will be next.
As midnight approached on Sunday the world anticipated a bankruptcy filing from Lehman Brothers.
Shares in AIG tumbled more that 60% on Monday and have requested a $40 BILLION loan from the Fed. And Merrill Lynch rushed to the breast of Bank of America...DAMN
Just think of all those account executives who have a spot or spin painting hanging in their condo. What happens when they cannot find work, they will try to sell their expensive stuff. Maybe you will be able to get a Hirst or Koons on the cheap in six months !! Maybe it'll ruin the art market or careers of certain artists !!

IKE
SAY NO TO IKE
On it's current track, Hurricane Ike should make landfall along the upper Texas coast late tonight or early Saturday morning. The impact is expected to be a category 2 or 3 which is INSANE.
The most severe conditions will impact areas just to the north and east of where the center makes landfall; the right front quadrant of Ike's circulation. Water level rise will be life-threatening in some coastal Texas counties especially Matagorda, Brazoria, Galveston, Chambers, Harris and Jefferson County.
BE SAFE...

WE DO IT WITH LOVE
Here is a sample of work from our next show.
Sarah Lucas will open to the public on October 25th.
Lucas's work confronts big, unwieldy questions-from sex and mortality to the underlying function of the work of art.
Made from an incongruous range of found objects and materials such as cigarettes, concrete and wax, Lucas's art is imbued with a defiant, base materialism.
Sarah Lucas came to prominence in the 1990s as a leading figure of the Young British Artists. Her work quickly achieved international recognition for a beguiling capacity to provoke moral indignation at the same time as amusement. She was born in Holloway, London, 1962, and studied at Goldsmith's College. She was included in the ground-breaking group exhibition, Freeze, in 1988, with contemporaries including Angus Fairhurst, Damien Hirst, and Gary Hume. Her work has been included in most major surveys of new British art in the last decade, including Sensation - Young British Artists from the Saatchi Collection, at the Royal Academy, London, 1997, and the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York, 1998; and Intelligence - New British Art 2000, Tate Britain, London, 2000. Solo exhibitions include Perceval, Doris C Freedman Plaza, Central Park, New York, 2008; Sarah Lucas, Frans Hals Museum, Haarlem, The Netherlands, 2006; Sarah Lucas, Kunsthalle Zürich, Zürich, travelling to Kunstverein in Hamburg, Germany, and Tate Liverpool, 2005. Various International group shows include The Third Mind – Carte blanche à Ugo Rondinone, Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France, 2007; Aftershock: Contemporary British Art 1990-2006, Guangdong Museum of Art, Beijing, China, 2006; and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vidda, with Angus Fairhurst and Damien Hirst, Tate Britain, London, 2004. In 2005, the monograph Sarah Lucas: A Catalogue Raisonné was published by Hatje Cantz and Tate Publications. She lives and works in the UK.

5 X 7 = ARTHOUSE
Arthouse is the oldest visual arts organization in Texas and 5x7 is an exhibition and art sale benefiting them. It took place at the Dunn and Brown Gallery in Dallas on Friday 29th.
All the works are displayed anonymously around the gallery and they are all $100.

Buyers discover the creators of their works only after the pieces have been purchased. As I wasn't buying I became sneaky and started looking on the back of each piece !!
All in all a very fun event and for a very good organisation. Well done everyone.
