TURNER PRIZE SHORT LIST UNVEILED

Organizers of the Turner Prize have named the four artists competing for the $37,000 award, given annually to a British artist under fifty.
Finalists are Roger Hiorns, Enrico David, Lucy Skaer, and Richard Wright.
Sculptor Roger Hiorns famously deployed thousands of gallons of liquid copper sulfate to turn a derelict London apartment into a cavern of blue crystals. Visitors had to wear protective clothing to visit the work, titled Seizure. Enrico David, an Italian-born artist, creates installations, sculptures, and drawings inspired by everything from traditional crafts to twentieth-century Surrealism. Lucy Skaer makes drawings, sculptures, and films and often incorporates found photos, while Richard Wright is a painter who cites architecture as a source of inspiration for his pieces.
The winner will be announced December 7.

NORTH TEXAS FOOD BANK @ GMF

We hosted a small gathering for the North Texas Food Bank on Wednesday.
The North Texas Food Bank was established in 1982 to address the critical issue of hunger in the North Texas area by securing donations of surplus unmarketable, but wholesome, foods and grocery products for distribution through a network of charitable organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in 13 North Texas Counties, including Dallas, Denton, Collin, Fannin, Rockwall, Hunt, Grayson, Kaufman, Ellis, Navarro, Lamar, Delta and Hopkins. In the first year of operation, the Food Bank distributed 400,000 pounds of food.

Members of the North Texas Food Bank's organizing committee became advocates with members of the Texas Legislature for the passage of the Good Faith Donor Act, which protects donors from liability of donated product. With the passage of this act in 1983, many potential donors began actively donating.

The North Texas Food Bank is a certified member of America's Second Harvest National Food Bank Network. America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest domestic hunger relief organization, solicits food and grocery products from national suppliers for distribution through 200 certified Food Banks nationally. America's Second Harvest also provides Food Banks with operational standards, training, support and inspection, and educates the public and government officials about the nature and solutions to the problem of hunger in the U.S.

The Goss-Michael Foundation is pleased to announce that it will host It Is What It Is: Conversations About Iraq, a new project by Turner Prize-winning British artist Jeremy Deller commissioned and produced by Creative Time and the New Museum. The project will encourage public discussion of the history, present circumstances, and future of Iraq through unscripted, nonpartisan conversations in cities across the country.
Jeremy Deller conceived It Is What It Is to stimulate unmediated dialogue about Iraq, and our relationship to it as people and as a nation. “I have read a ton of books and articles about the war but short of going to Iraq itself there is no substitute for meeting someone who has actually lived, or been there, hence the core part of this project,” said Deller. To this end, over 30 people with a variety of first-hand experiences of the country were available for conversations with thousands of visitors during the project’s installation at the New Museum in New York, from February 10 to March 22. On March 25, the project will began a three-week road trip by RV from New York to Los Angeles, during which time the artist and guest experts Jonathan Harvey (an Iraq war veteran and recently demobilized Psychological Operations platoon sergeant) and Esam Pasha (an Iraqi refugee, artist, and former translator for the Chief Advisor in the British Embassy of Baghdad) will visit at least 10 cities nationally. This road trip will broaden and deepen the dialog begun in New York, extending the conversation to diverse audiences across the country.

JEREMY DELLER

Over a six week period at the New Museum in NYC, British artist Jeremy Deller has invited journalists , Iraqi refugees, soldiers, and scholars to share their thoughts of the last ten years in and out of Iraq. At the end of March, "It Is What It Is : Conversations about Iraq" will travel across the US from NYC to LA, with conversations held at ten public sites along the way.

STUDENT ART CONTEST

Congratulations to everyone who entered the GMF student art contest.

The GMF art contest is now in its third year and has gone from 34 entries last year to 136 this year!

David Molay was the winner and his work of art will be framed and added the the Kenny Goss & George Michael Collection and exhibited along side previous winners in the GMF.

DALLAS ART FAIR PARTY

The Dallas Art Fair was a huge success for everyone. The dealers where happy, the event organisers were happy, collectors happy, everyone happy !!
We where so honored to be asked to host a cocktail reception for everyone involved. It was also the last chance to see our current exhibition by Sarah Lucas. Here are a few pictures from the night.

In 1997 Anthony d'offay published the Thomson catalogue for Richard Patterson's exhibition. They are extremely hard to find but we have managed to get our hands on 30 signed copies which are available for $25.00 If you are a fan of Richard's work this catalogue is a must have.

DAVID CHIPPERFIELD - MENIL FOUNDATION

The Menil Foundation has hired David Chipperfield Architects, a firm with offices in London, Berlin, Milan, and Shanghai, to design a master plan the museum will use to carry out its expansion. The firm’s past projects include the Neues Museum in Berlin the master plan for the Penn Museum in Philadelphia and the BBC HQ Scotland in Glasgow.
