MCA DENVER

A few days have past since our last post. This is due to our dedicated blogger (James Cope) who was off on location in Denver. The reason being is that The Goss-Michael Foundation has found a temporary home for Damien Hirst's formaldehyde sculpture, St Sebastian. He will be residing at the MCA Denver.

Founded in 1996, the MCA Denver was formed to provide the city with its first contemporary art museum. The MCA opened on new ground last year with a phenomenal new building commissioned by British architect, David Adjaye.

Tim Noble & Sue Webster were commissioned to make this beautiful light sculpture of Toxic Schizophrenia.

David Adjaye also designed Tim & Sue's house in London.

St Sebastian will be on view from October 7th through 2009

10 LAST QUESTIONS

This is the first of many new posts which will be called "10 Last Questions". Basically 10 quick questions, a short Q & A if you will, with an artist. These questions are nothing special, just simple questions designed for you, the reader to get a better understanding of the artist we are profiling.
To start us off we have the young and dashing Mr. Adam Ball.
Adam has exhibited in galleries worldwide, winning accolades including the Becks Futures Film and Video Prize at the ICA, London. He has shown with Paul Kasmin in NY, Galerie Schuster in Germany and at The Goss-Michael Foundation in Dallas.
Adam currently resides in London.

Q. When was the last time you were in your studio?
A. Today

Q. What was the last album you listened to?
A. I have been listening to the new album from Statik, featuring Pete Doherty, as I am currently working on the artwork for the album cover. Otherwise, Coldplay, Killers, Michael Jackson...

Q. What was the last film you saw?

A. 28 Weeks Later, which is a great film, followed by some films I never would have watched if I hadn't been trapped on a 10 hour flight.

Q. When were you last in a museum?

A. Last weekend. My studio is near the Tate Modern which I go to often, as its a great place to see contemporary art.

Q. The last restaurant you ate at?

A. My local Cafe. But I would recommend The Lobster Pot in London.

Q. Who was you last phone call to?

A. My girlfriend.

Q. When was the last time you got mad?

A. In the studio whenever I don't know what I am doing, (which is surprisingly often.)

Q. Last time you played sports?

A. Does watching count.

Q. Last time you didn't care?

A. Shortly after the second or third beer on a Friday evening.

Q. Last words?

A. I have recently joined a new gallery in Italy called Warehouse, where I will be exhibiting later this year.

DARK KNIGHT

$158.3 million box-office sales in the first three days shouldn't justify a great movie.

But come on, if you haven't seen it yet get your arse to the BIG SCREEN because it is so DAMN GOOD.

You will have chills by end, if not from the epic score (which just sets the tone for this movie) and great performances by Christian Bale and Health Ledger, you will have chills from how UNBELIEVABLY COLD THE MOVIE THEATERS ARE IN TEXAS.

Why.......why must it be so cold inside buildings, whats the deal.

OUT OF PLACE COWBOY

The last few days have been all fun and games with Tim and Sue being in town for the weekend. Our reception on Friday night was a huge success (photos to follow in a few days). After a long day and very long night, Saturday came around quickly. A must see for Tim and Sue was going to the rodeo so in Texas/Brit style Tim, Sue, Jessica and James all trucked up to the Mesquite Rodeo....YEEEEEEEEEEEE HA !!

We had called earlier in the day to scope the place out and see how we could best prepare ourselves for the nights extravaganza, the rodeo assistant recommend we get tickets in advance as it was going to be busy we said no we will get them at the door because how busy could a rodeo be....right??

Well..... it was packed, packed to the brim with Texas' finest. We found our seats, got a cheap beer and we were ready, bring on the bulls.

Did you know that they file down the bulls horns and tie rope around their privates, no wonder they look so pissed off and dont want anyone riding them. This guy was not playing the game and was about to get served.

The cowboys in red are like the sheriffs of bull ring, if the bulls get any idea's they regulate quick time.

Check out the head gear they are wearing, this guy wasn't feeling to well he had some major snot issues.

Check out James with his cheap beer and free gift posing next to one of the heroes of the night.

Never again will you see James, Jessica, Tim Noble and Sue Webster looking so out of place and so bewildered than at the Mesquite Rodeo.

TONY CRAGG - LINE OF THOUGHT

Just down the street from us is the newly constructed Rosewood Court building.

They have just installed this amazing new Tony Cragg sculpture called Line of Thought.

Dallas art consultant John Runyon helped with the acquisition of the piece.

BEAUTIFUL INSIDE MY HEAD FOREVER

Beautiful Inside My Head Forever is a major auction of works by Damien Hirst to be held at Sotheby's London on Monday 15th September 2008. The auction will include an important series of new pieces which have been created over the past two years.

Beautiful Inside my Head Forever follows the now legendary Pharmacy auction organised by Sotheby's in 2004 and which raised 11.1 million pounds.

The centrepiece for the upcoming auction will be The Golden Calf, a new sculpture of a bull in formaldehyde whose head is crowned by a solid gold disk and whose hooves and horns are cast in 18-carat solid gold.

You don't even want to know the estimate ! !

HITLER + CHAPMAN BROS = FUCKING HELL

If Hitler Had Been a Hippy How Happy Would We Be is the title of Jake and Dinos Chapmans new exhibition on view at White Cube Gallery. Nine glass cases stand in the main galley space in the shape of a swastika each case depicts something from your worst nightmare, or maybe not.

"If hell exists and Hitler is there, I think he is turning in his grave" (Jake)

The brothers - once called "the cleverest of the Young British Artists" by the critic Matthew Collings - also mark the fourth anniversary of the loss of one of their most celebrated pieces of work, Hell, destroyed in the 2004 Momart warehouse fire in east London, by revealing its successor. This time it is entitled Fucking Hell.

Also in the exhibition are thirteen watercolours of questionable quality by a man who never made it to art school......Adolf Hitler.

The brothers spent £115,000 on the paintings by Hitler and painted smiley faces, flowers and rainbow skies on them. They said that they were exploring themes of redemption and had made Hitler's art "better by it being worse".
Five years ago the artists Jake and Dinos Chapman were labelled vandals for defacing a set of Goya prints.

I THOUGHT IT WAS WHITE

"I thought it was white" was heard all around the grassy knoll in Dallas on the 22nd of November 2006, the memorial day for JFK. If you haven't seen this very famous piano that John Lennon composed the song Image on then pop along to North Park Mall and see it on display, It's on the second level near the movie theater. Check out the cigarette burns. Even though this photo was taken awhile ago we are playing catch up on our blog so you will see regular throw back posts relating to past events that we feel are worthy of respect.

BACON TRIPTYCH SELLS FOR $34.4 MILLION

Christie's Auction House London

Francis Bacon's "Three Studies for Self-Portrait" from 1975 was on everyones radar as four determined bidders vied for this work.

The Bacon triptych, made up of 14x12" panels went for well above its $20 million estimate. Francis Bacon began painting self-portraits in the 1960's and by the mid 1970's after the death of his partner, George Dyer he had begun a series of self-portrait heads.
